There was a tiny burst of interest in the geostl.com forums, then nothing
for months. So they were removed to keep us under our web hosts'
monthly disk space quota. Plus I didn't like the idea of the web site
drawing people to the forums just to see that all the information was stale.
Made it look like we didn't care and were a dead group.
Forums may centralize the conversations better, but you still can't get
a quick idea of who is going or if the time has changed without have to
scroll to the bottom of the thread. It's a little too 'freeform'.
When we did group hunts in the beginning of SLAGA, they were planned
out anywhere from a week to a month in advance, then I maintained
the information on the Event web page. That isn't realistic the way that
group hunts these days are suddenly thrown together.
It would be nice to have an on-line application that was specific to group
hunts; that would allow someone to 'create' a group hunt, then people
would 'join' it or 'unjoin' it or just leave comments.
Something like this should cut down on the 'so, when are we meeting again?'
