No one could imagine the New Zealand government violating their own laws to please the US government and bring down MegaUpload either.

I doubt if this is (yet) a "burning issue", but it could well become one very quickly.

As I pointed out though it is not JUST the US Government that we need to worry about! :-(

Another writer commented that we need separate websites for the code and the verification keys. It seems to me they should be managed by different organization is different countries as well!

Sadly if you rule out EU countries this gets to be a very short list:

Canada comes to mind since they have strong privacy laws and have resisted US "bullying" for their entire existence as a nation. See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_of_1812
