Dear Fellow Divine Nine Members,
My name is Martin Lemelle, and I'm a candidate running for Louisiana's 5th
Congressional District. I have been a proud member of the Divine Nine since
2004 when I was initiated into Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., Gamma Psi
Chapter, at Grambling State University. Currently, I'm an active member of
the Grambling Alumni Chapter, Grambling, Louisiana.
Our D-9 Family has a rich tradition of excellence, camaraderie, unity, and
service. Moreover, our members have made profound, cultural impacts,
uplifting communities across Louisiana, the nation and the world. Most
recently, we all witnessed fellow D-9 member Senator Kamala Harris (Alpha
Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.) make history, becoming the first Black woman to
be selected as the vice-presidential nominee of a major party in the United
States. She, like many of us, has demonstrated the idea that those who
refuse to place limitations on themselves will always succeed.
As our campaign to Move Louisiana Forward continues, your feedback is
valued and needed. That is why I'm requesting your chapter's participation
in a Virtual Town Hall Meeting Thursday, Sept. 10, 2020 at 7:00 p.m CST.
This will be an opportunity for you to share some of your most pressing
issues and concerns and learn about our campaign. We will also discuss
strategies to encourage voter registration and to counter suppression,
ensuring everyone has the opportunity to exercise the right to vote.
All chapter members are encouraged to attend and can register using the
link below. If your chapter would like to designate a representative to
serve as a featured panelist during the webinar, please respond to this
message by Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2020.
This is one of the most significant elections of our lifetimes with so much
at stake. Nevertheless, I'm committed to fight for the people, ensuring
Louisiana moves forward. In short, I hope to speak with you soon. Thank you
