for playing mp3 and other multimedia formats we should install restricted
packages which are not shipped by default with ubuntu due to various issues.
To enable the playback you should enable the universe and multiverse
repositories..
Go to System>Administration>Software Sources
and tick the Universe and Multiverse repository and click close
when the next option comes click reload
now try to play any media it will say that the plugin is required and it
will automatically search find the required plugin and you can install it .
