Although LAME is a pretty good encoder, anything below 192kbps sounds
pretty dire to my ears.  It does however depend on the type of and
spectral content music you are encoding.  Tracks which have a lot of low
frequency and hight frequency content simultaneously (e.g. most dance
music) fair particularly badly.
