John Crook says Virtual Scavengers is moving ahead on their statewide recycling cooperative project. :: Steering committee VS will establish a steering committee of delegates from the member organizations. The steering committee will develop a plan. VS has identified eight organization spread fairly evenly throughout the state. FGM is the only group he has spoken to about the cooperative. He hopes each organization will be interested. :: Structure John envisions a 501(c) organization, member based rather than board of directors based and separate from VS. :: Revenue/cost sharing The steering committee will determine revenue/cost sharing. It will develop a basic grant application to submit to foundations. John is talking to a staffer at the E.P.A. in Washington who runs their Waste Wise program. She is going to help the cooperative find corporate sponsorship for publicity, transportation, storage and recycling. :: Pickup scrap in South Bend John says VS may have a truck by this weekend. I asked him to estimate the minimum amount of scrap we need in order to justify sending the truck to South Bend. :: Gaylords VS has a vendor for $7/new gaylord boxes and no vendor for used boxes. What is our cost for new and used boxes? :: Visit from VS John wants to visit us. That would mean a lab night. A couple of us can give him the grand tour. Our server at Goodwill, the barn in Bremen, the Sallie storage room and LTSP lab. VS needs us to help them convert some of their operation from Windows to GNU/Linux. The LTSP lab should be a good demo for John. Maybe we can loan him a FreeBox to take back or just give him some Knoppix and Debian discs.
