I think before the Fundraising Director confronts the Executive Director
all the facts need to be known. We don't know what agreement the ED has
with the donor or what the ED told the donor. Make sure you have all the
facts before getting your knickers tied up in a bunch. (No one ever says
that anymore do they? I'm sure my son would ask me what knickers are.LOL)

ron,
there is no question at all that this is a huge moral and ethical offense.
it absolutely can not be excused.
as such - and it is very easy for me to write this - the fundraising
professional must tell the ceo that it is wrong and is not acceptable. if
the ceo insists, the fr can resign and look elsewhere for work. why would
you want to work for a place/person who is unethical and immoral???
the ceo should be fired for this. (it's no different, in my mind, than
anyone else who is immoral and unethical - you simply can not trust them,
can not trust anything they tell you, etc.)
perhaps a better question: should the fr tell the donor what is
happening? should the fr tell the board? that's harder. who's
responsibility is it?

Subject: [Fundraisers Forum] Matching Funds
Asking for a friend:
Matching Funds Question - A donor gives matching funds to an organization
with the idea being to generate new fundraising. The CEO of the
organization orders the Director of Development to count funds that have
already come in towards the matching funds. How should the Director of
Development handle this? Has the CEO done anything wrong?
