All of you I think are very out of touch, as very seasoned and well
positioned fundraisers, as to what is really going on in the lower levels
of the field. I find the salary survey accurate. I spoke to someone just
today who is taking a job that is going to pay her 4000 starting for 50%
time. And this is actually not such a small organization. I speak to
people, both job seekers and employers literally 5 days a week, and I am
PUSHING them to offer nothing less than 8000.
The other problem that at least 30% of my course graduates come up against
is employers trying to pay them by % of the monies they raise. I teach in
my class that this is wrong and preach about it to anyone, NGO director, or
job seeker that this cannot be done, but I am simply shocked by how
prevalent it is/ the number of organizations (obviously smaller less
professional ones) that are trying to do this. Those who are new to the
field and not connected to anyone to tell them differently, simply don't
even know that it isn't allowed.
