Yes, lots of stuff has been broken since that M$ SQL Server worm DDoS's
half the internet early Saturday morning. Right now, freelists.org (and
probably thousands of other domains) appear to be not in WHOIS anymore:
[weez:~] whois freelist.org
[whois.crsnic.net]
Whois Server Version 1.3
Domain names in the .com and .net domains can now be registered
with many different competing registrars. Go to http://www.internic.net
for detailed information.
No match for "FREELIST.ORG".

The Registry database contains ONLY .COM, .NET, .EDU domains and
Registrars.
And we're not the only ones:

DNS data gets cached locally for up to a week, but the effects of what's
going on are (obviously) already being felt.
