Hello there, I am a new list owner here at FreeLists. My list has been at
Topica for years, and we are fed up and exploring new possibilities. The
possibilities at FreeList are wonderful, but I am wishing for a couple of more
things.

1) I have a question that I searched the archives for, and found some old info
on. Quoting one of the old messages:

>>The only thing I could think of in reply to him, was to copy a message from
>>the Archive and then paste it into an outgoing message in his mail program.

>and to know what's already been talked about. I really think it's something
>of a bad idea for someone to be able to go into the archive and reply to a
>message that's three years old -- then everyone else has to go back and catch
>up, and anyone who's subscribed in the meantime is lost anyway.

I agree that in most cases, replying to old posts is a bad idea. But at least
in my industry, sometimes new solutions come up for old problems, and if one of
our members does not archive all of their received messages in a mailbox, then
they are out of luck. I think this would be a great list owner option, if it is
possible with this software. I would like my list members to be able to turn
off their subscriptions, and do all their reading and replying via the web. In
other words, for closed lists with public archives, once a list member logs in
with password, they should be able to go to the archives and see a reply button
on each message's page, and maybe even a "reply to sender" button for those
lists whose replies go to the entire list. This is an excellent feature of
Topica and some other listserver packages.

As part of this, the archives should be immediately updated with new messages,
so there is no delay for web-only list members.

2) I would love to see a way for a list member to log in to the FreeList web
site, and change their own email address. Then FreeList would send a
verification email, which must receive a reply from the new address. This kind
of feature is handled very nicely at Topica. A list member can add email
addresses to their login and have them verified, then change back and forth to
any verified email address for any Topica list they are on. This makes
address-changing hands-off for the list owner, once members are trained to use
it.

3) Finally, the archives for this list, freelists-users, ends in 11/2003. Have
there been no more posts since then?
