I really like the way Duc presented it with an annoucement of survey availability being posted on the "list" with a link to where a user can actually take the survey, (which would be on IPS or third party servers). My only additional suggestion would be that the survey pertain to a topic that is or has recently been a topic on the list. (Of course it isn't that hard to get a discussion going on just about anything on this list;) I don't think it is a good idea to open the door to actually using the list to post the survey questions but I could see that a topic might get so "hot and heavy" like the current IACC discussion, that some survey questions might be pertinent and useful to both the users and IPS. I'd feel comfortable with letting the list administrator, (Duc), decide if that is appropriate. Here is feedback to Alex. I have taken a ton of IPS surveys in my time, both by phone and email, and it would be nice, as a user, to be able to view a compilation of the results and anonymous comments made by responders. If a dedicated IPS web location was established for the survey purposes it could be browsed on a regular basis by interested users and provide vital feedback to both users and IPS employees! I agree. My feeling is that an occasional announcement of survey availability might be useful, but I don't even want to do that if the group doesn't agree that it would add value. Any other thoughts - out there? Of course, I'm still looking for volunteers. Alex sez: > 1) Is the list an appropriate vehicle for IPS to post survey > opportunities? Survey announcements -- *occasional* survey announcements -- yes! The preferred mechanism would be an announcement on this list that points to a survey that is located somewhere else on the web, either at the IPS web site or its surveying partners'. > 2) Is the list an appropriate vehicle for IPS to post survey > questions? I'm real hesitant on this one. This is such a wide open question that an affirmative here can open the door to, possibly, any and all ISP surveys and pitches. So I'll offer an "it depends" and reserve the final say-so on a case-by-case basis. The bottom line is, this list is a forum for the user community, and each and every posting should offer some intrinsic value to the list audience; otherwise we would be wasting our time. If so, please send me (OFF LIST!) the following information: a) Your name b) Your address c) Your phone number d) Your fax number e) Your e-mail address f) Your company name g) Your industry Don't know that I'll actually have surveys to submit, but I'm curious.
