Ed and Corey,
Ver 8.5 of Symantec Backup and Restore trial/downloadable version
does have both the Application CD image and an .iso file to create a
bootable CD for restore. We tested that and it works.
Ed, the Symantec Backup and Restore Ver. 7.0 sold by Invensys
comes with two CD's. The application installation CD, (not bootable),
and the Restore CD, (bootable). In order to do an image backup with
this arrangement you have to boot up off of the hard drive, install
the Symantec Backup Application on the hard drive, and then run the
application to do a backup. Is that your experience? Or do you have
a Symantec boot CD that will allow you to do a backup without loading
Symantec on the hard drive? Symantec Ver.8.5 has to be loaded on the
hard drive to do a backup also.
The Acronis "True Image" Backup and Restore we have been using
has both the backup and restore utility on a single bootable CD. With
this arrangement you don't have to load anything onto the hard drive
to be able to do a backup and you can do a backup of the existing
image and then restore a different image before rebooting the box.
The strength of the Symantec offering is that you can schedule
online backups to remote storage across the 2nd ethernet network of
all your AW's without shutting them down.
