I'm just gathering some information.
I'm curious to learn the service reliability record of P0971BR-0A and
P0971DU-0A 4mm Tape Drives.

I seem to have recurring trouble with the DDS drives on both of our AWs (one
C and one E).
Symptoms include:
1. When using the "backup" utility from VT100 the device is often not
recognized.
2. If it is recognized, tape errors come quite often and frequently
cause the "dump needs attention" message to appear (ultimately aborting the
dump).
3. Even from the "white screen" in single user mode, even after
rebooting (-r), the tape drive is not recognized.
4. Occasionally the "eject" button is ignored. It takes several power
down/up cycles to finally eject the tape.

With multiple tries I can eventually get a tape to work. I have not
established a pattern for success or failure.
This is occurring on a C-box and an E-box.
On the C-box, the tape drive is less than 6 months old.
Both drives have worked in the past.
I have used a head cleaner tape at least every other month.
I have used "recycled" backup tapes in the past, but many of these errors
are on brand new tapes.
The drives are in an office environment (no chemicals or excessive dust).

If anybody has similar experiences (or suggestions) I'd like to hear them.
