That's good to know.

My recollection from a checkout instructor (ex fighter pilot) in SoCal many
years ago is a recommendation to pull up into a climb, because the birds'
(typical?) reaction will be to dive. I've fortunately never had an encounter
that really tested that theory, though.

Had something similar happen to me coming back from ABQ to Angel Fire. I was a
11,500 approaching Santa Fe with a large flock of Geese. I saw them from a
distance and started making moves to avoid. Had FF so called to ABQ, they said
they could see returns on their radar of them too.

Subject: [flytaos] Birds
Hi everyone,
I would like to pass on the experience I had Sunday afternoon. I was flying
back to Taos from Tucson, at 13K feet MSL, and between ABQ and Taos I
encountered a large flock of very large birds, probably cranes but I can’t be
sure, could have been geese, at my exact altitude. Suddenly the flock was
there, all around me, I had no time to react, fortunately they swerved in every
direction. Scared the crap out of me. So keep an eye out for these migrating
flocks this time of year. Obviously they are flying at pretty high altitudes.
