Yes, date returns a different time earlier than fenrir by 4 hours.

Has your timezone been set either by link:
ln -sf /usr/share/zoneinfo/America/New_York /etc/localtime
or by using timedatectl::
timedatectl set-timezone America/New_York
Mine is set, and I get the following output for fenrir:
10:58am
And the following from date, note that I have aliased date to approximately
the same output format:
10:58AM
Hopefully your problem is something simple to fix like the ideas above. Also,
while on the time subject, the latest Fenrir from master has improvements to
the autotime setting. If you are interested, it can be quite useful. I have
mine set to go off once an hour, but it can be configured to any interval.
