Hi Storm,

I've tried Your suggestions, but unfortunately this didn't help. Also I've tried:

$ sudo speaker-test -c 2

speaker-test 1.2.2

Playback device is default
Stream parameters are 48000Hz, S16_LE, 2 channels
Using 16 octaves of pink noise
ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:1089:(snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to open slave
Playback open error: -16,Device or resource busy

So it seems there is some general sound output issue for root in Ubuntu 20.04.

Anyways thanks for Your support.

Best regards

Volodymyr

Howdy Volodymyr,

have you ran the pulse configuration tool /usr/share/fenrirscreenreader/tools/configure_pulse.sh? If so, This is just a guess, and may not work, but try adding root to group audio.

sudo gpasswd -a root audio

Thanks,
Storm

Hi,

I am trying to use Fenrir master on Ubuntu 20.04. When starting it as root I've got the following:

dorozhinsky2@dell-Inspiron-5570:/media/dorozhinsky2/linux-partition/workspace/fenrir$ sudo src/fenrir
[sudo] password for dorozhinsky2:
ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:1089:(snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to open slave
play FAIL sox: Sorry, there is no default audio device configured

And there is no speech in the text mode. Note, running:

$ python3 check-dependencies.py

shows no errors. So all dependencies are installed. When starting Fenrir as non-root there is no error like above. However, there is no speech in the text mode either.  Also the same configuration works fine in Ubuntu 18.04.

Best regards

Volodymyr
