For Immediate Release // Please Excuse Cross Postings

Dear FCLFC -

FoodCorps has worked to shape bi-partisan legislation to ensure
nutrition education is more consistently taught in schools. Local Matters
is asking for you to stand behind this work and for Ohio to make a strong
showing in this effort.

With the absence of nutrition education in schools, and overstretched
demand on everyone’s time and resources at home, practical education is
essential, not just nice to have. Can you sign on today, or by end of the
day Tuesday, at the latest?

This is urgent as the bill will be reintroduced next week.  Please act
if you agree (organizations only), and ask me questions if you like. The
legislation would establish $10 million annually in funding at USDA  for
schools and partners to implement nutrition education. See the note from
our friends at FoodCorps below.

Thanks,

Noreen

*Take Action: Endorse The Food and Nutrition Education in Schools Act*

We are writing to request your endorsement of the The Food and
Nutrition Education in Schools Act, legislation that will be re-introduced
in the Senate during the week of April 26th by Senators Cory Booker (D-NJ)
and John Cornyn (R-TX). The Senators introduced the bill in the last
Congress, and similar legislation was also introduced in the House by
Representative Kendra Horn (D-OK).

*To add your organization to this sign-on letter, please complete **this
form*
<https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdXKmxlpb49Mbv53CFggjXFO38U0EQoOumoBxFCH0NfCcLvCA/viewform?usp=sf_link>*.
With an expected introduction during the week of April 26th, we are asking
you to respond by **EOB, Tuesday, April 27**th**. *

As Congress moves toward Child Nutrition Reauthorization, legislation
that will support the nutritional well-being of school children through
food education and healthy school meals is critical.

*Key provisions of the Food and Nutrition Education in Schools Act
include:*

·  Provides funding for the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to
establish a pilot grant program to create food and nutrition education
positions in a range of rural, urban, and tribal schools.

·  Food and nutrition educators will implement evidence-based
practices proven to maximize students’ consumption—and enjoyment—of healthy
meals.

·  Priority will be given to schools in neighborhoods with high rates
of childhood diet-related illnesses and schools in which 40 percent or more
of students qualify for free or reduced price meals.

Additionally, we request your support in keeping up the momentum by
sharing this sign-on opportunity with your respective networks.

We are only accepting sign-ons from organizations (national, state and
local) and school districts. Please reach out to Mamiko Vuillemin (
mamiko.vuillemin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx) or Annalise VanVranken (
annalise.vanvranken@xxxxxxxxxxxxx) with any questions.
Thank you for your continued support and considering this request to
endorse this legislation!

With gratitude,

Mamiko
