Happy spring, everyone -
This month we will be gathering on *Wednesday, April 17th from 4:30 to
6pm at Columbus Public Health* (240 Parsons Ave) in the auditorium, with
a *Farm to School panel* sharing about the program locally and statewide.
Each practitioner will present an overview of their work, followed by Q&A
for the whole panel.
See below for the panelists, and we encourage you to share this invitation
with others!
*Joe Brown* has over 29 years of experience in the food service industry.
He has worked in restaurants, healthcare, and for the last 10 years as the
Food Service Director for Columbus City Schools. Over the past couple of
years, the department has been successful in increasing the amount of Ohio
food the students are provided, as well as linking the food we eat and how
it is grown to classroom lessons and outdoor learning gardens.
*Chris Weatherholtz *is currently the Nutrition Education/Farm to School
Coordinator K-12 for Columbus City Schools. Chris has been an educator for
29 years and of those, she was a classroom teacher for 23 years and a coach
or curriculum coordinator for six years.
*Kristen Peters* is the Healthy Food Access Program Coordinator for
Franklin County Public Health. Her focus is on healthy food access
initiatives throughout the county, including Ohio Days: My Plate, My State
which is the most prominent program that FCPH coordinates and facilitates.
On a personal note, she is starting her first garden in her backyard and is
excited to start growing.
*Carol Smathers *is the Program Director for Ohio Farm to School, as well
as a Field Specialist with OSU Extension. She has a Masters in Public
Health and has worked on a number of health and nutrition-related research
projects based in OSU Extension and the OSU College of Public Health.
