Thanks Barry. Maybe I will meet you in August at one of the meetings. I am
interested in iPhone 5 unlocked with Sim only pay as you go. At present I am a
Talks user but have iPod Touch and iPad Mini. Again like yourself I would only
use the phone in controlled public places as would feel vulnerable with it out
in the street or in a busy park. I am interested in the VAT relief too but
sounds a lot of Euros for the GB16 given that in the Apple Stores in UK it is
527 sterling. I wondered if Harvey Norman might sell it.

Subject: [fb-exchange] Re: Purchasing an iPhone Unlocked

Hi Eleanor,

We haven't met before.
I've attended the Exchange Club on a monday 4 times in the last year.
Unfortunately I cannot attend on a monday as I am attending the NCBI
rehabilitation course in Drumcondra.
However holidays in august and i look forward to going.

I'm considering buying an Iphone myself shortly.
Currently I am a Nokia c5 user with nuance talks which I bought for
129 euro from vodafone in Henry Street on prepay and got my sister to
unlock same.

Even after buying an iphone - I will use the nokia c5 in public and
keep the iphone hidden away from prying eyes.
I've been researching some options.
www.expansys.ie sell sim free iphones 4s 16gb for 599 euro and the
iphone 5 for 774 euro.
expansys although they have an irish web site and pay irish vat are
one of those web sites like amazon where the items are warehouses in
another country. I'd prefer to buy from an Irish company like o2,
vodafone, three etc where I know they are definitely irish companies
and would have at least some hope of getting the vat back.

Are you currently prepay or bill pay & what network are you with ?

I am on the o2 network myself but have found the following.

What I've found is as follows.

If I get an 18 month contract with emobile (eircom mobile) called
select 100 which gives you 100 mobile minutes, 100 texts and unlimited
land line calls but with no data for 14.23 euro per month, I can then
get an unlock code after 18 months which makes the phone sim free.
The above is the cheapest plan and the iphone 4s is 369 euro and the
iphone 5 is 419 euro.
The costs of the phone is 10 euro more if bought in store.
I would get eircom mobile to disable data on the phone for no nasty
surprises and would use my home wifi broadband for data and if on the
train use irish rails wifi and other free wifi like mc dongals.

Going with vodafone prepay, the iphone 4s 16gb costs 599 euro and the
iphone 5 16gb costs 670 euro.
On vodafone you have to have topped up your phone by 149 euro in the
previous 6 months in order to unlock your phone or else top up 149
over the next 6 months to receive an unlock code.
Otherwise if you know someone with a vodafone bill pay or prepay
account who has spent 149 or more in the last 6 months, they are
entitled to 3 x free unlocks codes and could therefore unlock your
iphone purchased from vodafone.

If you are with o2 prepay, you can pruchase the iphone 4s 16gb for 549
euro and the iphone 5 16gb for 649 euro. in order to unlock the phone,
you need to register the phone with o2 and topup your phone by 149
euro over the next 6 months, they will then give you an unlock code.

With three.ie on bill pay, you could get what Gerry Kerr has for 40
euro per month called classic flex max 350 which give you unlimited
data, 350 mobile mins or texts and unlimited 3 to 3 network called.
The iphone 4s then costs you 199 Euro on an 18 month contract of 49
euro on a 24 months contract.

With three.ie on bill pay, you could get for 40 euro per month called
classic flex max 350 which give you unlimited data, 350 mobile mins or
texts and unlimited 3 to 3 network called. The iphone 5 16gb then
costs you 329 Euro on an 18 month contract of 129 euro on a 24 months
contract.

I would also be interested in claiming 23% tax back to reduce the purchase cost.

Hope the above is of use.

If I hear anything else - I will keep you posted.

Regards,

Barry O'Donnell
