John Delany introduced Johnny McInerney to the group who came along with
Maura his P.A. Johnny wanted help with JAWS on his laptop particularly in
the area of managing e-mails. The group covered some basic JAWS commands
like JAWS+T to read the window title, JAWS +J to access the JAWS application
and JAWS +F1 to turn on/off keyboard help in JAWS. with Johnny and Cearbhall
agreed to do some one-to-one training with Johnny after the class concluded
at 12:30.
Johnny finds it difficult to remember all the keystrokes for using JAWS with
Gmail. The group felt that he might find it easeier if he were to use
Outlook to read his mail.
Annette sought some help in sending the same text to multiple recipients.
Both Dominique and Michael helped with this: simply open the Messages app;
double tap Compose; flick right to Add Contact and double tap this. The
contact list is now displayed. Double-tap the contact you need added and
that detail will be stored in the To: field. To add further recipients
repeat the procedure by Adding another Contact. The group explained to
Annette that she could a different message to the same list of recipients at
a later time without having to add them again. Simply open the text message
and tab to the message body area of the screen.
Bob talked about receiving documents stored in JPeg format and the
difficulty with reading them. Cearbhall told him about the ABBYY fine reader
which has OCR text recognition capabilities capable of accessing Jpeg files.
Dominique told the meeting about the feature in IOS 11 for checking the
capacity of your battery found in Settings/Battery/Health Beta. It displays
the current capacity of your battery - a new battery has a capacity of 100%
but this diminishes over time. Dominique's battery capacity is 84%.
