Great news, we're finally getting a pedestrian-only gate and path leading
from Whitworth Road in to Head Office and the Training Centre! People with
impaired vision will be able to access our premises safely, without the
worry of sharing the driveway and entrance/exit with cars.
While work is in progress, for the next week or two, please pass the word
that we will all need to be careful, entering and leaving, as of course
there are diggers and pneumatic drills on the premises, while the work
proceeds. They are safely behind barriers, but some people may find the
noise distracting and disorientating.
The main gate, the one everyone usually uses, will also have to be closed
some of the time, so people may sometimes have to use the gate which is
further along Whitworth Road, as you go towards Drumcondra. This is the
gate which has always been kept locked, in the past.
Directions (facing towards Drumcondra): You will find a small down-kerb and
then cobbles underfoot, when you reach this formerly locked gate. As you
turn in to your left, keep to the little wall on the left hand side, and
when you notice a change of surface underfoot (and hear the fountain
directly on your left, rather than ahead of you) turn to your right, listen
to ensure it's safe to cross, then cross to the foot of the steps which lead
up to the main building.
If attending the Training Centre, after crossing you will need to turn to
your left and continue along the bottom of the steps, then cross the bottom
of the ramp, and turn right to make your way to the Training Centre as
usual.
Apologies for the inconvenience, but in a couple of weeks we should have a
nice new pedestrian gate and footpath for pedestrians (and wheelchairs) to
access our premises safely, so we hope everyone agrees that it will be worth
it!
