Thanks to Cearbhall and all the exchange club for their work in helping Declan
to update the website
I am not sure how much space is available but I certainly Think that Mary‘s
rephrasing of the small piece about the exchange club is excellent. In view of
the latest development of members joining the cork exchange club from as far
away as Donegal (well done Jackie!) perhaps it would be useful to include a
sentence explaining that if you cannot physically come to the club it is still
possible through the wonders of technology to be virtually present!

The Exchange Club is an ainformal drop-in meeting place for persons
living with varying degrees of ssight loss who wish to improve their day to
day experience through technology. Essentially, it is a group of people
exchanging and sharing their knowledge of what has helpful to them and what
they would like help with. The focus is mainly around technology relating
to iphones, smart phones, laptops and so on. Lots of other interesting
discussions takes place around heinteresting items such as visits to art
exhibitions, info about libraries, social events taking place and general
exchange of useful information to vips. Do check it out - you might be
surprised at what you can offer and what you can learn.
Please add, subtract, change or delete as you wish.
Also, I would take out the sentence that says the meeting takes place at the
Insight Counselling Centre as some people might be put off by this and find
it confusing. The Fighting Blindness office might be sufficient. Anyway,
the Insight centre does not apply to the Cork meeting.

Technology can offer an opportunity to improve the quality of their
communications with others, using such equipment as mobile phones with
Talks, iPhones with voiceover and interface with laptops, etc.
The FB-Exchange Club is a place for people living with different levels of
vision loss to meet friends and help each other to get the best use of such
assistive technology.
Dublin:
The Dublin FB-Exchange Club meets on Monday mornings from 11am to 1pm, at
the Insight Counselling Service at 3rd Floor, 7 Ely Place, Dublin 2. If you

Cork:
The Cork FB-Exchange Club meets every Saturday in Cork City Library, Grand
Parade, Cork City between 11am and 12.30pm. However the club does not meet

The Technology Reviewed
Initially, The FB-Exchange Club focused on desktop issues and latterly has
advanced the sessions to include laptops, iPads and mobile phones.
Specifically, topics covered to date have included:
* Social Media Platforms;
* iPhones;
* Android Phones;
* Tablets;
* Apps (IOS, Android);
* Troubleshooting;
* Websites;
* VI-friendly Tools and Features;
* Instant Messaging
The Greatest Technology Breakthrough
This is considered to be the ability to fully join in with the global
texting community, increasingly connected through technology.
The Wish List
The members of the FB-Exchange Club would like to see:
* All sites become WC3 compliant (as are Government websites
generally);
* The labelling of Apps (currently graphic ID only);
* A greater understanding amongst providers that upgrades are not
always compatible with the frequently hard-won existing visual impairment
enabling solutions;
* Dedicated call-centre agents who are specifically trained to
understand the needs of and communicate the solutions for people with a
visual impairment.
If you have any questions or helpful suggestions, please don't hesitate to
