Cearbhall I just love your note-taking minutes, they're so accurate, precise
and paragraphed accordingly.  You capture everything so eloquently and are a
hard act to follow!

Subject: [fb-exchange] FB Exchange Cork minutes 27th of April 2019

FB-Exchange Meeting: Long valley, Cork  as the Cork Library was not
available.
Saturday 27th. April 2019

In attendance:

Derry Walsh, Kenneth Walsh,

On WhatsApp: Chris Egan, Jackie McBrierty, Cearbhall O'Meadhra

apologies: Pat McCarthy; Noreen Meagher.

Noreen tried to join late but was unable to make contact with the group to
let them know.

In future, to avoid having to miss a meeting, anyone in Noreen's situation
should call Cearbhall on the landline as that would always be reachable
during the meetings.

Chris reported that he is still waiting for a response to his request for
access equipment at work.

There was a  lively discussion on touch screens and the difference between
the Apple MAC and IOS systems on iPhone, iWatch and iPod.

Jackie reported that the app Clew worked brilliantly indoors but not when
she was outside. Some wondered if Clew needed WIFI to work. Cearbhall
pointed out that the app uses Apple's new Arkit (Artificial Reality
kit)facility to enable apps to record the details of a walk-through. The
group agreed to explore the app further and see if it works without use of
the internet either by WIFI or Data.

Jackie wondered how efficient Ken found the Apple watch ECG feature. Ken
reported that it works better on the watch than on the iPhone. On the
iPhone, he found that he had to restart the app and open the previous day's
record to get an accurate record of the number of steps taken.

Derry asked if there was an app that could slow down a piece of music for
study purposes. Cearbhall recommended Transcribe on the PC and demonstrated
how it slows down the music to a single note if necessary. There is an app
called "Mymusic" that claims to do the same job and would be worth
reviewing.

Derry also asked if there was any means of naming a piece of music either
playing on a radio, or being played live within earshot. Ken recommended a
free app called Shazan which he has been using for the past five years. he
explained that You just open Shazan, face the phone in the direction of the
song and the app will tell you  the name and other details of the song.

Jackie pointed out that SIRI will also tell you what a song or piece of
music is called.

After some discussion it was agreed that Moovit is a bit tricky to use and
that Blindsquare is the most effective app so far.

This led to a lively discussion of the availability of electronic
information on busses and bus-stops outside Dublin. It was agreed that there
is no such service, even on buses, in rural areas. The experience in cork
city is not much better.

Ken reported that he was surprised to find that his iPhone might suddenly
start playing an audio stream even though he did not touch it. Cearbhall
reported that a previous discussion in FB-Exchange had revealed that there
are two audio systems in the iPhone and this causes the last audio stream to
play even though the app originally delivering the audio was no longer
active. Chris remarked that this explains why the phone would continue
playing a talking book from BorrowBox even though the app was not active.

The meeting closed with thanks to the long Valley for hosting the meeting
gratis.

Cearbhall

On behalf of Kenneth Walsh who abdicated!
