You have done such a good job that I am now on the same page as you.
I do use a 'victor Stream' for my reading endeavours but have to hunt and
forage for books at random.
Many times not getting the latest releases.
I have borrowed or even gought books on the legacy 'CD' format and re ripped
them for this device.
A long and torturous process.
I am sure the 'kindle' will obviate this nuisance.

Hi Garth
I will give you my experience with the Amazon devices and then suggests
options rather than follow your questions in a logical or stepwise way if
that is OK.
1. The Amazon platform do so many things differently to windows, android and
apple.
2. Normally to an eye reader you register the device Kindle paper white
with your Amazon account. To create an account use email password and set up
the credit card number. In a funny way kindle ebooks are bought in Ireland
from the American Amazon.com so you buy in dollars. There is no access to
the UK Amazon site for ebooks. You use the UK Amazon site for all the other
online shopping goods that the postman brings to the door.
3. Once the Kidle device is registered you go to the Kindle store and
activate the 1 click and download the ebooks or the audio books if the
device can support the speech. Note kindle devices use whispernet or free
mobile data as well as wifi to download the ebooks.
4. Any device that is registered to your Amazon account should be able to
read the same ebooks. In my case I can ask the Amazon Alexa dot speaker to
read my ebook independent of the kindle paper white.
5. I am assuming you got a deregistered kindle paperwhite from your friend
so you may not use his account to buy more ebooks. You can transfer ebooks
from your computer to the kindle using a cable.
6. Now for those who need voice over. The Amazon Fire has text to speech or
TTS may be more accessible to you. Again you register the Fire to your
Amazon account with the beloved credit card number and hear the ebooks that
way.
7. For the Kindle Paper white there are so many different generations or
versions, some may have the text to speech or Bluetooth or maybe a speaker!.
The kindle paper white model I have has no TTS. My wife uses it for normal
use.

So what are the steps forward?
Is the 'Paper White' as good as the 'Kindle Fire'?
Do I hook it up to my computer and see what serial
Or model it is?
Do I then go to the kindle website and down load
Any browser, or screen reader or software
Which I would naturally use to read on this device?
Where do I locate the tutorials for this device?
I am not too worried about font size
As I am a 'total'.
For future use and convenience,
Would I always have to find 'audio' type books
Or is there a way that I can read books
Ascribed to sighted folk?
I would imagine, that if this gets going
There would be a world of books and audio entertainment available?

Yes, it is possible to use Kindle.
The app works on Apple and Android smartphones and tablets and supports
changing font sizes, colours and styles.
It also fully supports Screen Readers.
Older Kindles like the Kindle 3 have a good built in screen reader
The Kindle fire tablet also has a built in screen reader.
Depending on which version of the Kindle Paperwhite you have, you may be
able to connect a Bluetooth speaker or headphones to it and it might
support text to speech.

So it got me thinking,
Is their a way we as blind can possibly use
