Therefore, it would be a good idea to save the newsletters locally on your computer or in a different folder in your mailbox, before you delete them from the Inbox of your e-mail account (if you usually do that). -------------------- FAMILY TIES MAILING LIST SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT NEWSLETTER Welcome back to the Family Ties Mailing list and its newsletters. Just like the last mailing, this is not really a newsletter either but rather another "status update" mailing... All member records have now been transferred to the new server (FreeLists.org) and the old ListBot server has shut down. If you are reading this, then it means that the transfer of your account was a success and that your e-mail address is now stored on the new server. Then you won´t have a problem in the future either. If anyone has unsubscribed from the mailing list since the last message from the list, then please unsubscribe again - When the last e-mail was sent, the member records had already been saved from the old server, so your e-mail was then only deleted from the old server (which doesn´t exist anymore). I apologize for any inconvenience this has caused you. As before, you are still welcome to send out e-mails to all members of the mailing list, assuming they are related to Family Ties or its cast/producers/crew in any way, or comments/suggestions about the Family Ties Home Page (for the latter, it might be more suitable for you to e-mail me privately though). If you have questions about Family Ties, please try e-mailing me privately before you send questions to everyone. It´s unnecessary to send questions to many people when I may already know the answer. If I don´t have an answer, you´re more than welcome to e-mailing the list. The address to use for sending e-mails to everyone is: FamilyTies@xxxxxxxxxxxxx E-mails sent to that account will be immediately sent to all members of the Family Ties Mailing List. As a security measure though, larger e-mails will be moderated and must be approved by me before sending out - That is implemented to prevent large spam postings from reaching all members. GUIDELINES FOR POSTING First of all, these are the general guidelines, for those of you who have just recently subscribed to the Family Ties Mailing List: * You may NOT post messages unrelated to Family Ties. Messages about what the actors/actresses in Family Ties have done before or after appearing in Family Ties (such as mentioning Spin City for the case of Michael J. Fox) is okay, but that is where I draw the line. * If you wish to tell the world about a new web site about Family Ties, that is okay - But please keep it in a short informative tone and do not generally brag about the site. * As always, spam is not allowed - In this context, I consider spam everything not related to Family Ties, its actors/actresses/crew/producers or the Family Ties Home Page itself. * Anyone who sends spam to the mailing list will be put to "Nopost". That means that they will still be a member of the mailing list and can still receive messages (newsletter, etc.) but will not be able to send any messages to the list themselves. This also applies to anyone repeatedly sending unrelated messages or duplicate messages. TECHNICAL GUIDELINES (SERVER-SPECIFIC) For this new server, a few new technical guidelines which have not applied before has been set. These are: * Attachments are NOT allowed on the Family Ties Mailing List. If anyone send attached files to the mailing list, the attachments will be stripped out but your message will still go thru. This is set up to prevent viruses/worms from reaching members, as well as keeping the sizes of e-mails done (No one likes to get e-mails on several megabytes, which may result in their e-mail address going over a storage quota...). Please note that attached plain-text files (*.txt) will still be allowed though. If you have files you would like to share with the members (such as pictures or similar), please e-mail them to me at daniel.hofverberg@xxxxxxxxx instead, and I will post them to the web site instead and e-mail the members with links to the files. * E-mails in HTML are not allowed on the mailing list. Any e-mails sent in HTML will be automatically converted to plain ASCII text before sent to the members. This is to assure that everyone can read the postings regardless of what e-mail program they use, as well as to keep the sizes of messages down (HTML e-mails are generally larger than text e-mails, because all HTML tags are counted towards the size). Not to mention that is is technically possible for some viruses/worms to be hidden in HTML code (such as via scripts or ActiveX), which would not be very nice to receive... Finally, remember that problems may always arise with new servers, so please be patient and understanding if anything weird happens... I would appreciate if you could notify me of such things though. That´s it for now - The next real newsletter will probably be sent out in a few weeks. I hope you have had a nice summer, and that you will continue to have it (although the summer is almost over...) - For those of you on "the other side of the world", such as Australia and New Zealand (there are several subscribers from these two countries) , have a nice winter!
