I agree that media isn’t usually something that goes aware by lack of comments.
Would there be a few people that would be willing to starting drafting a press
comment, to possibly be used later in a full press release, with general themes
that could be woven in to any outcome of the meeting tonight? With a heavy
leaning on inspirational – love for school was demonstrated in action by many
students; families came together to support their school and the people who
educate their children; power of unity in seeking social justice. You know,
those kinds of things. Basically, a series of “soundbites” that make our
community sound amazing. Maybe there is a group of parents who could meet
briefly after the meeting tonight to volunteer to write something up?

I think that we should say that today we still do not have comment however,
having utilized personal ties that some of our allies have to ask her to hold
the story I think we must get back to her this week.
I have done quite a bit of the behind the scenes media work with the Anti-war
23. I know how difficult it is to deal with what feels very much like the
intrusion of strangers into issues that may make people feel like their
personal integrity is being questioned. My experience doing media work tells me
that ignoring it will not make it go away and in fact can make it snowball. I
think we want to be able to give a positive and forward looking message and
quite soon. I think it is important to frame that message in our own terms and
with our own values and try to communicate those values to Sheila.
That's my advice but as always I defer to those most impacted by the story for
the final decision.
