I don't know Sheila.  If people think she will actually  hold the story then
that will be great.  All of my comments should be read with my having the
assumption that we had no control over whether or not the story runs.

I think if the story goes forward anyway without our quote that would be
problematic.  If we can really try to prevent it from running that will indeed
be the best option.

Agreed with Johnny. Sheila is good people and probably more likely to be
reasonable about this than most journalists would be.

Also, if the teachers are saying that we shouldn't talk to the press WE NEED TO
LISTEN. They are the most affected and we are here to support them.

I believe if Sheila is asked she will continue to hold the story.  I would like
to get people together to talk about next steps or nonsteps with media.

If she is actively pursing this story, she would see that their is a board

right?

It's my opinion that no comment would be a mistake. On the other hand she could
potentially have a fuller story after today's Board Meeting and perhaps some
people could get together on a statement.  I definitely think that statement
should have a positive tone.

I hear that people are concerned about speaking at all and I really do want to
hear more on the topic.

I know that doesn't help out at all Jessica

She messaged me yesterday. I need to tell her something today... Even if it's
no comment. I told her last week we would have a statement after Fridays
meeting, and I haven't given her anything yet. I'm not confident in my ability
to say the right things... I'm too chatty! I would LOVE if Steph or Flo or
others could either guide me in what to say or decide to have someone else talk
to her.

Steph, I'd be willing to work on this with . . . whoever. I know people are
concerned, for very good reasons but I'm afraid we can't put her off much
longer. Do you know how soon we'd have to talk to Sheila or have a statement
ready? Flo

It doesn't have to and should not include negative comments about anyone. Just
that parents rallied because of concerns about management and direction.
They've been communicating with board members to reach some kind of consensus
about what needs to happen to keep the school strong and to assure a positive
working environment for the school. She'll ask about lisensure, she already has
(according to Toni). Don't need to talk about any specific teacher but say
we're working with VOA and MACS to make sure we're in compliance and suggest
she talk to them because they will be very careful about what they say.

Thanks Johnny. I really appreciate your concerns and I share them.

To me the problem is, there will be a story, we are not in control of whether a
story will be written or not. Sheila heard there was an issue here from friends
of the school. She was at the student walkout and has interviewed the VOA and
Toni and asked about compliance issues. How do we now try to shape and impact a
story that is going to happen with our own response.

I would hope to differ, as has been stated, around media.

We are working very hard to unify a school. This communities; support work and
organizing has most definitely pulled an amazing group closer together......
but at this time I am still concerned about pulling us ALL together.

Thank you for you care and consideration around media. I believe it to be a
large risk for a little school that has so much going on. I believe any
negative comments towards Toni could have possible legal ramifications. I think
the next step is to pull discussion together where the topic is specifically
media.

Thanks so much.............................. all

I agree. She could be an ally and reporters, even really good ones, get mad if
they feel like people are hiding from them.

I think that we should say that today we still do not have comment however,
having utilized personal ties that some of our allies have to ask her to hold
the story I think we must get back to her this week.

I have done quite a bit of the behind the scenes media work with the Anti-war
23. I know how difficult it is to deal with what feels very much like the
intrusion of strangers into issues that may make people feel like their
personal integrity is being questioned. My experience doing media work tells me
that ignoring it will not make it go away and in fact can make it snowball. I
think we want to be able to give a positive and forward looking message and
quite soon. I think it is important to frame that message in our own terms and
with our own values and try to communicate those values to Sheila.

That's my advice but as always I defer to those most impacted by the story for
the final decision.

Hi Wonderful people. Sheila Regan of the MN Daily messaged me last night asking
if the parents had decided on a press statement. She asked where we are at In
This situation. I have not responded. I need input from you all- I could easily
say we are still not ready to speak. Or? Please chime in here :)

In love (fest)
