Fire Pit Rule to be adopted:
The management company and Board conferred with the City Of Des Plaines fire
inspector and determined the following rules are in effect:
* You cannot install a permanent fire pit anywhere within Fairmont homes,
whether on your property or in a common area.
* You my have a free standing fire pit so long as i/t is 15 feet away from //
//everything in all directions./ This is a City Of Des Plaines directive. As a
practical matter, it makes it almost impossible for a fire pit to be placed on
a patio. If you put one in a common area, it must again be 15 feet away from
everything i/ncluding trees, shrubs, and vegetation./* Notice that this means
it has be 15 or more feet away from the branches above as well.
* You may not burn leaves in the fire pit.
* It should be monitored at all times.
* Take care to keep clothes and scarves away from the fire.
* When done using the pit, add water, dirt and made sure all embers are out
completely.
* /DO NOT put the ashes in the garbage right away. /Leave the fire pit
covered and wait until the next day to bag and dispose of the embers. Des
Plaines Fire has seen cases of garages catching on fire because they thought
their fire pit embers were out, but were not.
The city fire inspector will be happy to come to your home and do a fire
inspection, and bring you a smoke detector. Contact:
