Notify 847 of your conclusions. If the pit is placed on the grass, it needsto
also needs to be 15 feet from any tree.
We need to add this to our rules.
Thanks.

Went to Police/Fire Academy this AM and talked with the fire inspector
for Des Plaines. Fire Pits were on his agenda for the day.
If it is a store bought pit like from Menards, Home Depot, free standing with
sides and cover/screen, it must have 15 feet clearance all around it.
If it is made with bricks in a circle fashion, it must have 25 feet clearance
all around it.
No leaves can be burned in the fire pit. It should be monitored at all times.
When done using the pit, add water, dirt and made sure all embers are out
completely. The next day, put ashes in a bag and then in garbage. Some
folks think the pit ashes are out and put in bag and then in the can and
sometime during the night the garage is on fire. When attending to your fire
pit, make sure your clothing- coats, scarfs are not in the way of flames.
You are welcome to call the Fire Inspector and he will come out to your home
and do a fire inspection and point out dangers, etc. He will give you
a smoke detector also. If you need the Fire Dept to install them, they will
install for you.
