Hi Marcelo. You have a very comprehensive list here and it's very
impressive what your editor can do. Are you going to include the
installation of expansions as well? I remember having to install the
World and Orchestra expansions and it was more a hit and miss thing. I
hope you can incorporate this into the editor. Cheers and thanks for
your excellent work.

Hello All:
Tommy's list is very important to align expectations here. Sorry for the long e-mail, but it is important to be learnt by you both!
My Editor was based on the MIDI Specification that Roland provided to us.
I do not have access to FA's screen contents directly, however, based on the MIDI parameters, I've tried to recreate the majority of the features from FA's screen menus into PC screen, One nice example is the PART VIEW editor, where you can edit all PARTS and all PARAMETERS easily in a table.
Below, is a list of 23 main things that you will be able to do in the Editor:
1. edit System Common Settings in a table.
2. edit System Effects in a table.
3. edit Studio Set Name in a textbox.
4. edit Studio Set Common Settings in a table.
5. edit Studio Set Effects in a table.
6. edit Studio Set Parts in a table, able to browse the 16 Parts of
the Studio Set.
7. edit several Parts parameters like tones, volume, range, splits,
layers, etc...
8. edit FA's PAD buttons to switch groups of Parts, creating
different configurations of layers and splits inside of Studio Set.
9. In addition to FA's functionality, you can move, copy and import
Parts from other places, this was my first inspiration to make
this Editor.
10. Parameter Database, edition all MIDI parameters, in a table with
search feature.
11. Tones Database, list of all tones, including all expansions, with
search feature, and filter checkboxes for Type, Bank and Category.
12. List of Internet Links with many topics related to FA Workstation,
like specs, forums, videos, etc...
13. Read and Send parameters from/to FA's memory (System, Studio Set,
Parts, User Tones, Effects, etc.).
14. Load and Save parameters from/to SysEx files.
15. Compare and report the differences of parameters between FA's
memory and Editor's memory.
16. Compare and report the differences of parameters between SysEx
files and Editor's memory.
17. User Library - Load a list of Studio Sets saved in SysEx files
from a folder
18. User Library - Read a list of Studio Sets from FA's memory
19. User Library - Read a list of Tones from FA's memory
20. User Library - lists items can be edited, or saved as SysEx files,
or sent to FA's memory.
21. Monitor MIDI traffic with logs.
22. Send SysEx commands manually.
23. SYNC MODE - this should be one of the most important for you - in
this mode, every parameter in FA's memory that is reported via
MIDI will be synchronized with Editor's memory, it means, if you
change something in FA's memory, it will be also updated on
Editor's memory. if you change something in the Editor's memory,
it will be automatically updated on FA's memory.
Unfortunately, I see the following 5 limitations below:
1. Most Important NOTICE - everything that is changed in FA's memory
by the Editor is stored on a temporary memory of FA Workstation.
You must press the WRITE button on the FA workstation to save
data, if not, data will be restored as soon as you select another
Studio Set, or Tone, or start-up the FA.
2. Most of System Settings are not available via MIDI and cannot be
touched by the Editor. We can discuss some operation sequences to
set up things that you need that are out of Editor capabilities.
3. Sequencer and Rhythm Patterns resources are not available via
MIDI, and are not covered by Editor. FA's sequencer and rhythms
are weak, I suggest to you to use any other DAW which may offer
better accessibility.
4. Tone Editor is weak, this was demanding heavy workload to map
thousands of parameters that are not well specified by Roland
linked with a complex visual interface needed. People are still
asking for this, I put low priority since it was available in the
FA's screen. A workaround for you is the Parameter Database
feature, where you can edit every parameter using a search
feature. An issue here is that some of Tone parameters have a
generic name ending with a sequence number whose purpose and
meaning are handled internally in the FA's Tone Editor Screen. To
be more specific here, each Tone uses the same parameters like
param1, param2, param3 to represent different purposes depending
on the Type of Tone. For example, a Piano tone will use param1 as
release time, while another Organ tone will use this same param1
as reverb. This occurs with hundreds of parameters and becomes
quite complex to map and implement in an external Editor, without
any support from Roland.
5. Tone Effects shares the same limitation from item 4. Workaround is
to use Studio Set TFX and switch FX to specific Parts.
I hope it can explain better how the Editor works and what it can do for you!
Thanks,
Marcelo.

Sure I will!
1. I would like to know how to Create a Basic Sequence.
2. How to create custom Rhythm Patterns.
3. How to setup studio sets.
4. How to change tone on second parts when you layers instrument.
Note: I know how to layers instrument. But I doesnt know how to
change the tone on the second layers.
5. How to change volume on each tone.
6. How to setup different effect for each tone. And how to use TFS.
I'm sorry if I asking too much. I know you're working hard to make
it accessible for us.

Hello Tommy,
Yes, sure!
As soon as I release first version, I will try to guide you about
how to do things on it.
Could you send me a list of things you wish to do on FA
workstation, so them I can describe the sequence of operations in
the Editor.
Thanks,
Marcelo

Hi, I'm here!
Already working on the improvements:
- created an accessibility menu with all features organized
for you.
- working on Tab order and Tab stops for each control
- working on accessibility names for each control where NVDA
gets info to guide you, more complex with the tables and
grids, but it should work.
I hope to send a preliminary version soon.
Thanks,
Marcelo
