Hi folks.....I just wonder if Leycesteria formosa would survive?? Not eaten
by deer in woodland, and at Dublin nothing ever ate it, even elephants
never even touched it.
Mind you, it's listed as invasive in some countries so be warned!! No idea
why it is not palatable.....answers on the back of a E50 to me please
The other possibility is Salix purpurea, so full of salicylic acid nothing
eats it - planted a lot as even rabbit proof. Far too bitter to be eaten.
Neither of the above are poisonous that I've ever seen or heard of so no
risk either.

The only shrubs which have survived after 6 or 7 years are Berberis and
Pyracantha, I think; both species get nibbled into rather strange shapes,
but at least are now well established and provide some long-term cover in
the enclosure. For a small species, they seem to be quite good at
stretching over fences, and have been eating the laurel and other species
in the surrounding structure planting. There are several trees in the
enclosure which are doing well, with trunks protected by wire mesh.



I’ll have a wander over to the enclosure later and see if anything else
has survived, and take a couple of photos for you.

pictures from Chester Zoo where the anoa`s are eating from nice plants in a
green luss exhibit.

Are there still plants left and have other zoo `s an idea what is anoa
proof?
