Good morning,  a quick request from the conference team...

We are looking for anyone that would be willing to cover a presentation to the
group on any of the following topics please:-

  *   Tree selection for climate change - we have allowed for two 30 minute
talks on this subject, with one delivered by Edinburgh Botanic Garden (subject
to confirmation) and are looking for another speaker to share their experience
and knowledge of the subject
  *   Use of medicinal plants/herbs (30 Minutes)
  *   Establishing a browse plantation (30 Minutes)
  *   Winter browse strategies (30 Minutes)
  *   News from the Zoos - This is an opportunity to share with the group your
achievements and can be about anything that has been happening in your zoo
garden (10 Minutes)

If you would be interested in giving a presentation please email me back
personally rather than on this group.

Conference 2023 Update

Good Morning everyone and may we take this opportunity to wish you all a Happy
New Year!

We have just held another planning meeting for the upcoming joint EZH and PWG
Conference which will be held at Edinburgh Zoo on 26th - 28th September 2023
and can now reveal the themes for the 3 days!

We are aware that having not being able to meet for the last few years is
likely to mean that there are a lot of new people in our industry that may not
have been to the conference before, and we would encourage you to do so as
there is always lots of things to find out about from the other delegates,
whether they are presenting a talk or just someone to talk with during some of
the less formal time spent together.  We have also tried to allow for this in
our themes by going 'back to basics' this year and focusing on plants; where to
get them, what to look for and once you have them, how they can be put to best
use.

On day 1 (Tuesday 26th September 2023) the theme will be 'Sustainable Plant
Procurement', day 2 (Wednesday 27th September 2023) we will look at 'Browse
Production and Plant Toxicity' and on day 3 (Thursday 28th September 2023)
'Plant Selection and Planting Design for Animal Enclosures on a Small Budget'
will be our focus and will involve a practical / workshop element.

We are looking for speakers to give us the benefit of your experiences in their
own place of work and give a presentation to the group on a topic that fits
with the daily themes.  Each speaker will have 30 minutes including time for
questions (but you can always seek them out later to talk about things in more
detail!) and we would particularly like to cover 'tropical stock procurement',
'tree selection for climate change' (weather related or pest & disease
related), 'use of medicinal plant / herbs', 'plant toxicity and plant
selection' (in relation to toxicity concerns), 'winter browse strategies',
'incorporating browse plants into zoo landscapes' and 'establishing browse
plantations'.  The titles are by no means set in stone and we are more than
happy for you to adapt them, or come up with something completely different as
long as it fits with the general themes.

There will also be the opportunity to tell us what has been happening in your
own place of work with a short (10 minute) presentation under the general
heading of 'News from the Zoo's', so if you have been involved in a project or
just had something happening that you think might be of interest, and don't
want to commit to one of the specific lectures then please do consider this
section, it is always good to hear and see (a picture paints a thousand words)
what everyone has been up to because it will undoubtedly be helpful to someone
in some way!

We are all very much looking forward to welcoming you to Edinburgh and having
the chance to catch up with old friends and make some new ones too!

Subject: [ezg] Joint EZH & BIAZA PWG Zoo Horticulture Conference

Dear Colleagues,

I am very pleased to announce that we are planning to hold our first face to
face group conference in 2023!

This will be a joint conference with both the EAZA affiliated European Zoo
Horticulture group and the BIAZA Plant Working Group with the aim of gathering
as many of us as possible together.  We are also aware that there may be a
number of new members to the groups that have only recently come into the world
of zoo horticulture and as such the plan is to focus on the basics of our
industry in the topics to be covered by the programme, more details will follow
on for this later.

The conference will be held at the fantastic Edinburgh Zoo in Scotland from
Tuesday 26th - Thursday 28th September 2023 for the main conference, with an
icebreaker on the evening of the 25th September 2023.

Edinburgh has a long history as a zoological garden and has some amazing
gardens and enclosures for us to discuss, including the Panda enclosure of
course!

Keep an eye on the group emails and I hope that you are able to join us for
what I am absolutely sure will be a very informative few days of lectures,
tours and networking.
