Hi John, Thanks you for pointing out the cname record problem, I have just fixed that, this is a new install of Exchange as of last night and I am still working on setting up addresses you mentioned. I am not sure why my mail was working correctly with the Beta Verisions of Exchange and Windows 2003. here's a message I just got trying to send from my msn account. I was able to send up until yesterday when I installed the released versions of Exchange and Windows 2003 Reporting-MTA: dns;BAY0-SMTP08.adinternal.hotmail.com Received-From-MTA: dns;MIXTECMOBILE Arrival-Date: Tue, 25 Nov 2003 09:17:17 -0800 Final-Recipient: rfc822;jmaas@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Action: failed Status: 5.7.1 Diagnostic-Code: smtp;550 5.7.1 Unable to relay for jmaas@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Thanks for you help Justin _____ From: John Tolmachoff (Lists) [mailto:johnlist@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Tuesday, November 25, 2003 9:13 AM To: [ExchangeList] Subject: [exchangelist] RE: smtp;550 5.7.1 Unable to relay for http://www.MSExchange.org/ Extremely reliable. They are created by a company that is dedicated to E-mail and Spam and DNS. Problem is you have a CNAME within your MX record. That is a big no no and can cause problems and is non-compliant with Internet standards as discussed in the RFC's. When your server answers, it is claiming to be someone different. You are also not accepting e-mail to abuse@xxxxxxxxxxxxx and postmaster@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx That is grounds for listing under RFCignorant.org and is again non-compliant with RFCs. In this day and age of SPAM and Viruses, if you are going to have a e-mail server, you better play by the rules. BTW, many mail servers will either not accept mail from yours or silently delete e-mail from your server because of the above mentioned problems. I just did the same test on our MX records and we're not having any issues what so ever. This means that the 207.61.92.122 domain does not exist! No mail can be sent to it. -----Original Message----- From: John Tolmachoff (Lists) [mailto:johnlist@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Tuesday, November 25, 2003 11:51 AM To: [ExchangeList] Subject: [exchangelist] RE: smtp;550 5.7.1 Unable to relay for http://www.MSExchange.org/ You do have some DNS problems with your MX record: http://www.dnsreport.com/tools/dnsreport.ch?domain=mixtecinc.com http://www.dnsreport.com/tools/mail.ch?domain=mixtecinc.com John Tolmachoff Engineer/Consultant/Owner eServices For You --------- ------------------------------------------------------ List Archives: http://www.webelists.com/cgi/lyris.pl?enter=exchangelist Exchange Newsletters: http://www.msexchange.org/pages/newsletter.asp Exchange FAQ: http://www.msexchange.org/pages/larticle.asp?type=FAQ ------------------------------------------------------ Other Internet Software Marketing Sites: Leading Network Software Directory: http://www.serverfiles.com No.1 ISA Server Resource Site: http://www.isaserver.org Windows Security Resource Site: http://www.windowsecurity.com/ Network Security Library: http://www.secinf.net/ Windows 2000/NT Fax Solutions: http://www.ntfaxfaq.com ------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------ List Archives: http://www.webelists.com/cgi/lyris.pl?enter=exchangelist Exchange Newsletters: http://www.msexchange.org/pages/newsletter.asp Exchange FAQ: http://www.msexchange.org/pages/larticle.asp?type=FAQ ------------------------------------------------------ Other Internet Software Marketing Sites: Leading Network Software Directory: http://www.serverfiles.com No.1 ISA Server Resource Site: http://www.isaserver.org Windows Security Resource Site: http://www.windowsecurity.com/ Network Security Library: http://www.secinf.net/ Windows 2000/NT Fax Solutions: http://www.ntfaxfaq.com ------------------------------------------------------
