removing duplictates from information store

All can anyone help how can remove duplicates from the IS, I did a restoration 
of a IS and the old log which where not committed what happened is that when a 
user were connected to their mailbox they found that duplicates emails where in 
their mailbox and When some tried to send emails they couldn't and when some 
tried to send emails to their colleagues they keep on getting the message that:
            This message is larger than the current system limit or the 
recipient's mailbox is full.  Create a shorter message body or remove 
attachments and try sending it again.
And the size of the priv1.edb has doubled. I
NB: I am looking at a solution which can do this from the server side and not 
clients as I have a lot of users.
I have used the tools available in exchange but I wasn't able to get the size 
of the priv1.edb to original size.
