Yes this is possible. You will need an MX record for office.company.local.domain. You will also need to create an email alias of username@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx for each mailbox in the child domain. I think there is something you might need to do with recipient policies, but I don't remember.
