1) If you've unchecked the "Use mailbox store defaults", then yes. 

2) Yes. And And my own scripts.

I've got, oh around a gazillion mailboxes over 2 GB. Most of them using
cached mode and Outlook 2003. It works fine in our experience (Outlook
2003 is a definite requirement). It's just a bit slower than smaller
mailboxes. YMMV.
