three major differences are
 
... the mailbox store limit (Standard = 16Gb max vs Enterprise =
unlimited, as long as you have the disk space).
 
... the ability to cluster (standard can't, enterprise can)
 
.... the ability to run in front-end/back-end mode (standard can't,
enterprise can).
