Edition, the ideal solution would be : Veritas Remote Storage for MS Exchange Of course, this would also have it's benefits for the Ent. Edition as well. It's the one-stop-shop for removing whatever you want from the database (ie. Viruses, pr0n, 2mb joke attachments). However, please note it is very powerful, so rather than me tell you how to do it spend a little little time researching it - I think its not installed by default, its on the install CD, along with the docs. If you haven't got enough space to run it against a copy of the DB at least make sure you have a good backup before starting. And anyone thinking of using PSTs for anything should do a web search on Ed Crowley's PST bad bad bad! At least know the risks and prepare for them. This is particularly easy to set up in Outlook, but I only know how to set it up from the client end and that means doing it individually for each client. I would imagine there's a way to do this from the server end, if you have a lot of mail users you should look into that. Jamie A. Byrnes wrote on Monday, 2 June 2003 12:29 PM > 2. Check the mailbox sizes and lean on the worst offenders (usually > upper management) This is an interesting phenomenon, and one I currently face. Does anyone have any effective strategies for laying down the law and telling one's boss that he has to reduce the size of his mailbox? :) Serious question there. Options are: 1. Upgrade to enterprise edition 2. Check the mailbox sizes and lean on the worst offenders (usually upper management) 3. use exmerge A good example for using exmerge is to pick a large joke file that's currently doing the rounds of your company and wipe it out of the database. Alternatively you can wipe out files before a certain date. You can do this under the guise of a backup, and even keep the data if you want although its difficult to do anything with it. Not sure if you need to do an offline defrag afterwards though - have never hit this limit. Our database size is exceeding the limit of 16 GB. Online defragmentation shows only 1 GB of free space. Is there any way to decrease the size of database immediately. Server is restarting intermittently because of this problem. Thanks in advance Regards, Pranav MCL, Nagpur.
