Does anyone filter emails on an Exchange 2000 system - where do the filtered
emails go? I am looking at the filter folder and it is empty - shouldn't
they be going somewhere?

To specifically answer the question, if you look in ESM, right-click on the
server and select properties, then goto the Directory Access tab, you'll see
the servers that Exchange uses.

If you have not changed the default configuration, then Exchange will
autodiscover the new servers.

The autodiscovery process runs each 15 minutes.

If one of the servers fails, it can take Exchange up to 15 minutes to fail
over (documentation says less than that, but that's real world experience).

For more information, see the Exchange Server 2003 Technical Reference Guide.
It goes over this (and many other things) in great detail.

Active Directory will know and register the proper DNS records.

Subject: [exchangelist] Upgrade question...

http://www.MSExchange.org/

Hi all,

I'm planning to upgrade my domain from 2000 to 2003 and in doing so, create a
new domain controller and decommission the old one as I'm afraid the hardware
might fail anytime..
What I'm planning to do is the build a new computer, install windows 2000
server. Then dcpromo it to create a second dc in the domain. Then, transfer
the fsmo and make it global catalog server. Now, by doing so, how does the
exchange server recognize that I now have a new DC. Is it as easy as change
the DNS on the exchange server or do I have to run some tool?

Thanks
chris
