The benefit is more evident when you get into backup/restore. You can
backup/restore in parallel at the storage group level. So if you follow the
ideas and keep your stores small, you end up with more of them. If you want
to put them back faster (and many do) you want to keep them small and in
separate storage groups so you can put them back in parallel.

It's not required, but it offers an option when planning a server. You
could also just run it in one SG and in one store like you did with Exchange
5.5. No problem with that if it works in your situation.

What's the benefit of multiple storage groups?

Each country has about 60-70 users and doesn't really warrant another
server/routing group.

The recommendation is to usually try and create as few SG's as possible as
each one has memory and cpu requirements as well as transaction log
requirements. In other words, if you don't need another one, don't create
it. If you do, then be aware of the resource usage associated.

One of the factors to consider is the restore time of the SG vs. the store.

Curious, with 5 countries do you have one server? Or multiple Routing
Groups?

Is there a recommendation in creating Exchange 2000 storage groups? Is
there size, users' recommendation?

Currently I have 1 storage group at ~67GB hosting 500 users in 5 different
countries.
