That only applies to Standard Edition.

An Exchange administrator should be aware of that limit, and should plan
for it.

If your organization needs more than 16 GB of mailbox storage - then you
should buy it. Not defrag the database.

If you DON'T do an offline defrag (assuming you are using Exchange
Standard, not Enterprise) Exchange will crash when it gets beyond 16GB
limit. I know because mine crashed. We purchased PerfectDisk 7 for
Exchange, which enables scheduling of offline defrags.

There is never any need to do an offline defrag unless: (a) PSS has
explicitly instructed you to do so, or (b) the usage patterns of the
database have changed dramatically.

Hello All,

We just finished doing offline defrag (ESEUTIL /d /p) on our mailbox
stores after implementing storage limits. Do any shops out there do a
defrag on any regular time interval? We were guessing 1/quarter during
our regular maintenance down time.

We are Exchange 2003, Windows Server 2003, 1xFE-2xBE shop.

Thanks, Robert
