Hazem,
In Exchange environment all user mailbox data is kept in the server by
default. Does your user use any PST files to download all messages from
server, or does the user use OST files to synchronize? Or does the user
just access the mailbox from the server ? When you say the user reports
the "email brought forward", can you explain a little more, brought from
where to where ?

Raj

Hi Raj,

Are you referring to message and user's mailbox at the machine or at the
server ? the user machine has gone its been formated and a new
operating system has been installed on it, all our recourses are only
the Exchange server 5.5 but not the client which was Ms Outlook office
2000, we also have a backup tape, this is why we want to know if its
possible for changes to have taken place on that user's sent old email
stored at the server itself ? the user claims that the email brought
forward diferece from the one he sent and used to have at his machine,
the question is if any one has done any changes on that email at the
server where its stored ? how ? and can those changegs be traced or not
?

Please advise

Yes, it wil still show the exact modified date. The Modified
date/time
is always stamped in the message. By selecting the field to view
you are
just viewing what is already in the message. Same applies every
other
field. It is there, you just select what field you want see or
hide. By
deleting field, that data is not lost, but just hidden.

        Regards,

        Raj

        Hi Raj,

But if the "Modified" date/time field to the user's mailbox
folder was
not add at or before the time the changes took place, and have
ben add
afterfward, would it still tell me when the changes occurred to
the
message if any after the message was received in the folder, or
sent out
        by the user

        Please advise

        Hazem,
Add the "Modified" date/time field to the user's mailbox folder
under question, and compare the Received or Sent dates against
the
Modified dates. This will tell you when the changes occurred to
the
message if any after the message was received in the folder, or
sent out
by the user. Technically, it is possible to make such changes as
an
admin and save the messages. Your sent date/time or received
date/time
will not change in this case. Only the Modified date/time will
be
changed. To add the Modified field, use the Filed chooser, and
select
        "date/time fields" option.

        HTH

        Regards,

        Raj

        Hi Chris,

Thank you for your response, the situation is that the user has
got his email box active and has got all his sent and received
emails in
its folders showing its old sent on or received dates
accordingly, what
he complains about is that the text in one or two of his sent
and in one
his received emails has been changed , its not the same as it
was when
received or sent although it holds the right old dates of the
time it
has been sent or received at with all the other information in
place,
the user accuses that some one from the admin team in purpose
used his
power and full control to make those changes, now its a
challenge is it
possible technical wise for an admin to do those changes at the
user
mail and to save those changes keeping all the old dates and
references
of the original or not ?

        Please advise

Yes that is possible.... Does the recipient know the
        dates the e-mail was sent?

If so, is deleted item retention turned on so that it
can be recovered from deletion? If it is outside of the
retention
window (if enabled) have the admin restore the users mailbox in
a test
environment and recover the sent items. I would hope that you
have good
        backups to recover...

        Chris
