Well I must be a newbie as well, because I have yet to find a single
reference in any of the security books I have on my bookshelf that
states "locking a server" is more secure than logging out, nor have I
found reference that says "locking a server" is the recommended way to
secure your server.

So please help the light grow brighter by pointing me to a single
publicly available resource that states that locking is more secure than
logging out.
