You still the man Matt!! Thanks for the info thus far. I've checked my recipient settings and they "appear" to be ok. I created another recipient policy to see if that would fix or help it, but it doesn't seem to have done anything. I had someone also telnet and nslookup from the outside and confirm that everything's cool. This narrows it down to being a relay issue. I hope. As far as re-installing, it has crossed my mind several times. My only concern with that is how will the new install effect the schema and whether or not this'll resolve the problem. Unfortunately for me the documentation I'm pulling from MS support isn't helping much. But that will be my last resort. Frustration = the essence of one's own success and failure. For without it, how far do or will we know to push ourselves... -----Original Message----- From: Walkowiak, Matt [mailto:Matt.Walkowiak@xxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Monday, June 24, 2002 11:54 AM To: [ExchangeList] Subject: [exchangelist] Re: STILL unable to receive mail from OUTSIDE!!! http://www.MSExchange.org/ - Re-Vamped! Ok, now we are back to square one. Kewl. I just tried to send a message to asdflkjsadflkj@xxxxxxxxxxx - this is obviously a made-up name and does not exist on your server (if it does, im playing the lottery tonight...) Anyway, rather than getting a "user not found" error message, im getting a "cannot relay" error message. That means your server thinks it is supposed to forward info onto another server. You need to make your server think it is the final resting place for mail going to @nubiint.com. I don't know Exchange well enough to tell you where to fix the problem, but I would first look in the recipient policies (expand Recipients, Recipient Policies, right-click default recipient policy) and make sure that's all correct. If you're still lost, I'd uninstall Exchange and re-install it. I am sure it is fixable without reinstalling Exchange, but ME PERSONALLY would reinstall. Oops...forgot to turn my web server back on. Hey matt can you try it now. The only problem appears to be with the mail server, but I think you should be able to get a hit on both nubiint.com & mail.nubiint.com Thanks for any assistance on this -----Original Message----- From: Walkowiak, Matt [mailto:Matt.Walkowiak@xxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Monday, June 24, 2002 10:24 AM To: [ExchangeList] Subject: [exchangelist] Re: STILL unable to receive mail from OUTSIDE!!! http://www.MSExchange.org/ - Re-Vamped! Marvin- I just did an nslookup on nubiint.com - no good. Check out my results below... ******************************* C:\>nslookup Default Server: ns2.gofast.net Address: 209.46.63.6 > nubiint.com Server: ns2.gofast.net Address: 209.46.63.6 Name: nubiint.com Address: 0.0.0.0 > mail.nubiint.com Server: ns2.gofast.net Address: 209.46.63.6 Name: mail.nubiint.com Address: 0.0.0.0 ********************************* Looks like your DNS is fubar... I'd work on that one right quick. Once you have that working (because it looks like it was working at one point from your error messages) I would bet that your exchange server does not realize that it is the final resting place for mail going to nubiint.com and expects to forward the mail somewhere else, and since your yahoo account is not allowed to relay off of your exchange server (relay another word for route or "pass thru") you get that error. And I think IMS stands for Internet Messaging Service, or something like that. It's the code that connects your Departmental Exchange server (messaging server that passes e-mail between accounts that are local) to all the mail servers on the Internet. Also, don't worry about ports 110, 80, 113 or other ports for a while - all you care about now is 25. In fact, turn em off at your router for now to keep from confusing the situation. "telnet mail.nubiint.com 25" Since this is a home network, you might wanna start thinking about starting over? There are too many variables to check with a messaging application as large as Exchange. You're probably setting this network up to learn how to use the software, but getting frustrated over it does no one any good. Exchange is relatively easy in its default configuration.
