McAfee is only one of four algorithms that they use to screen for viruses.
They are also partners with these companies so they will get the pattern file
updates long before the average customer will. When I say long I am talking in
some cases hours. But with the way things are going, that can be an eternity.

When you look at the big picture costs to maintain in-house:

Additional bandwidth
Security (allowing anonymous SMTP connections) Hardware costs Software costs
Maintenance's costs Anti-virus subscription costs Cost of downtime Spooling
costs Setup Upgrades Change management Power Human resources, benefits, sick
days, hit by a bus, stress (taking spams personally)

Etc...

As you know, it's a business decision though... most of my clients use Postini
and love it, others have made a decision to bring it in-house
- in which case there are a long list of options.

...D

P.S. Ralph, I can resell Postini for around the $2 mark - depending on how many
users.
