Jason, I use a separate gateway product called MailFronier ASG. This sits in front of our Exchange system. All inbound mail that comes from the internet hits this system first and is filtered for SPAM. No rules to setup, just levels for the sensitivity of catching SPAM. Everyday user's get one message from this system listing all the e-mail the system caught for that user. Links in the message allow a user to release or view the message if a false positive. Users can also logon to the server to manage their own settings (nothing harmful) and search for junk that was heading to them. The product pulls the directory from Exchange (LDAP) so that they can logon to the system with their AD accounts. This is also how the system gets it mail addresses from. I have setup this so if mail from non-existant users hits the gateway to drop. This product is great for the admin with little time. It will also update itself with rule sets from Mailfrontier hourly. Nice product with little or no maintenance. You can also get the product with anti-virus option, content filtering option, anti-fraud, and others. -----Original Message----- From: Jason Davis [mailto:JDavis@xxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Monday, February 21, 2005 7:52 PM To: [ExchangeList] Subject: [exchangelist] RE: SPAM Blocking for Exchange Server 5.5 http://www.MSExchange.org/ Thanks, guys, for all the information and support! -----Original Message----- From: Chris Wall [mailto:Chris.Wall@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Monday, February 21, 2005 5:03 PM To: [ExchangeList] Subject: [exchangelist] RE: SPAM Blocking for Exchange Server 5.5 http://www.MSExchange.org/ Be sure to post you MX record for this new server a couple of days in advance so that it has time to replicate across the internet. After verifying all is working correctly, remove the MX to your exchange server so mail does not bypass the GFI server. -------------------------- Chris Wall NAM Sr. Exchange Administrator Global Knowledge Network w - 919.460.3236 c - 919.345.7447 f - 919.468.4889 -----Original Message----- From: Jason Davis <JDavis@xxxxxxxxxx> To: [ExchangeList] <exchangelist@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Mon Feb 21 18:11:21 2005 Subject: [exchangelist] RE: SPAM Blocking for Exchange Server 5.5 http://www.MSExchange.org/ Thanks for the suggestions, sounds like a plan!!! Although, let me understand this correctly: I have to install it on a separate box (SMTP server) other than my Exchange server? Thanks for your time. --Jason -----Original Message----- From: Chris Wall [mailto:Chris.Wall@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Monday, February 21, 2005 3:04 PM To: [ExchangeList] Subject: [exchangelist] RE: SPAM Blocking for Exchange Server 5.5 http://www.MSExchange.org/ GFI Mail Essentials... inexpensive but good. Download the trial and you can test it (full version) for 30 days or so... I promise you will not find a better solution for the money. I currently use it for my Exchange 5.5 environment with over 1500 mailboxes... it is VERY strict out of the box, so you will want to edit the filters to meet your company's needs before implementing. But that only took me 2 days total... Does anyone have any good recommendations for SPAM blockers at the server level? We are receiving 150-200 SPAM messages per mailbox per day!!! I am running an NT 4.0 Server running Exchange Server 5.5. Our network is very small - 30 Exchange mailboxes. Keep in mind cost, ease of use setting up, configuring, maintaining, etc. Thanks for any recommendations! --Jason Davis ------------------------------------------------------ List Archives:
