Thanks for the response. With respect to point 2. What should I configure on
the exchange 2003 server so that it takes user name and password for SMTP
connections from outlook express.

Also i was just considering controlling SMTP relay access by giving "Relay"
permission to only "Authenticated users" instead of ?Anonymous logon?. But i am
not sure how will this help?? Will this help me in preventing people sending
mails by telneting to port 25 (In case user doesn?t have valid ID)? Will this
also help in SMTP authentication from Outlook express?

Oh never mind, I see where you are coming from. SMTP delivery vs. Telnet 25 -
there's no difference so if you allow SMTP delivery via the server, you can't
prevent telnet 25 delivery.

1. You can't

Can't this be accomplished by denying access to the virtual server through
connection control?

1. You can't
2. Make sure they have the have configured Outlook Express to authenticate with
the outgoing server, you can do this by going to the Servers tab in the Outlook
Express account properties and checking the box.

Hi ,

I have two quires:

How do I restrict users from teleneting to port 25 on my Exchange 2003
server for sending out mails?
What should be done on the Exchange 2003 server to allow authorized uses to
send out mails to outside world by using a POP3 client (e.g Outlook Express).

Currently people can telnet to my exchange server and mail to other users in
the exchange organization by giving any FROM address. Also by using Outlook
express people are not able to relay mails to outside world. I want only
authenticated users to relay mails.
