I think i should have given more info..

Relay to external world is not possible only through Outlook express.I have
selected "outgoing server needs authntication" whcih is pointing to by backend
Exchange server, but still i get below error. My backend server forwards mails
to SMTP smarhoat which in DMZ (Check point firewall)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The message could not be sent because one of the recipients was rejected by the
server. The rejected e-mail address was 'ramaswamy_praveen@xxxxxxxxx'. Subject
'test', Account: '10.10.10.10, Server: 10.10.10.10, Protocol: SMTP, Server
Response: '550 5.7.1 Unable to relay for ramaswamy_praveen@xxxxxxxxx', Port:
25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 550, Error Number: 0x800CCC79
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have no Cisco PIX firewall between the client PC and the Exchange server.
relay works for MAPI clients. I have allowed relay for authnticated users on
the SMTP virtual server.

Hope i am clear this time. I tried google but all points to Cisco firwall SMTP
issue. Which i do not have.

Sounds like they need to authenticate to the Exchange server.

Hi,

Users are not able to send external mails while using outlook express but can
send external mails using Outlook MAPI client. I am forwarding all external
mails to smart host from my backend server. What should I do to allow external
mails from internet clients like Outlook express??

I am running exchange 2003 sp1 and sendmail on linux.

Regards

Praveen R
