But no SMTP Connector configured. I only configure the Default SMTP virtual server. I assume that the SMTP Connector not really necessary to configure coz we are not controlling either the way messages are routing to SMTP hosts or set additional limits on the types & size of messages. But I test as Greg Wright said & it gives me the following output.. <<< 220 mail.crescat.com Microsoft ESMTP MAIL Service, Version: 5.0.2195.6713 ready at Fri, 8 Aug 2003 17:06:05 +0600 >>> HELO www.abuse.net <<< 250 mail.crescat.com Hello [208.31.42.77] Relay test 1 >>> RSET <<< 250 2.0.0 Resetting >>> MAIL FROM:<spamtest@xxxxxxxxx> <<< 250 2.1.0 spamtest@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx OK >>> RCPT TO:<hirantha@xxxxxxxxxxx> <<< 250 2.1.5 hirantha@xxxxxxxxxxx >>> DATA <<< 354 Start mail input; end with <CRLF>.<CRLF> >>> (message body) <<< 250 2.6.0 <rlytest-1060340752-8635@xxxxxxxxx> Queued mail for delivery Relay test result Hmmn, at first glance, host appeared to accept a message for relay. THIS MAY OR MAY NOT MEAN THAT IT'S AN OPEN RELAY. This is what I want to know. Systems appear to accept relay mail, but then reject messages internally rather than delivering them. As Greg Wright said my backlog is getting lot of mails. Do I have to configure the SMTP Connector to eliminate this? Please help me on this. :-( Thank you in advance, - Hirantha -----Original Message----- From: Greg Wright [mailto:greg@xxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Friday, August 08, 2003 11:58 AM To: [ExchangeList] Subject: [exchangelist] RE: SMTP Mail Queus http://www.MSExchange.org/ You might like to consider cleaning the backlog as well, since an open relay system can backlog quite a lot of email. Also, many emails will be undeliverable, and will therefore attempt to send a few times before the server gives up. Therefore, not clearing them can also waste bandwidth and slow down the server. -----Original Message----- From: Mark Fugatt [mailto:mark@xxxxxxxxx] Sent: Friday, 8 August 2003 3:24 PM To: [ExchangeList] http://www.MSExchange.org/ Read this document quick and stop the relay: http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/MF005.html Hope this helps Mark Fugatt MCT, MCSE, Microsoft Exchange MVP Pentech Office Solutions Inc Tel: 585 586 3890 Cell: 585 576 4750 Fax: 585 249 0316 www.4mcts.com www.exchangetrainer.com -----Original Message----- From: Hirantha Wijayawardena [mailto:hirantha@xxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Friday, August 08, 2003 12:43 AM To: [ExchangeList] http://www.MSExchange.org/ Dear All, Quick question..
