If you want to use a third-party, you have to use a metaDirectory such as the one sold by MS : MIIS 2003 that dit it well, but it costs ! Note that "Identity Integration Feature Pack 1a for Microsoft Windows Server Active Directory" is free but unfortunately does not include sync with SQL data base.
